2.13. How to Interpret Investment DNA

Lesson objective

Use the score as a research index.

Investment DNA summarizes dimensions such as Business Quality, Financial Strength, Growth Potential, and Price Attractiveness. Its purpose is to organize signals and show where deeper research may be useful.

A total score can hide trade-offs. A high-quality company may have a demanding valuation, while an inexpensive company may have weak growth or excessive debt.

Always review “Why This Score” and the underlying metrics. The score does not know the user's goals, time horizon, portfolio, or risk tolerance.

Simple example

In the MSFT review, Business Quality and Financial Strength were stronger than Price Attractiveness. This does not produce a trade instruction; it creates different research questions.

Read a score as a map of trade-offs

Overall profile → Quality | Growth | Cash flow | Financial strength | Valuation | Momentum/Risk

Same total, different profile

Company A may be strong on quality and balance sheet but weak on valuation. Company B may be inexpensive but have weak growth and fragile cash flow. The same total score can hide very different research questions.

Ask which components drive the score, which raw metrics support them, and what evidence could change them. A score does not know your portfolio, taxes, horizon, or risk capacity.

In Finzati

Open the score breakdown, record each component, and verify the metrics that support it.

What you should remember

  • The score is a summary, not a recommendation.
  • Different users may interpret the same profile differently.

Practice

Choose a company with a high score and identify at least three reasons not to buy immediately.
